Our journey today began at the western wall. You might wonder why people pray there

The wall itself was not the wall of the temple but rather the western wall of the temple mount. The temple mount today actually houses the Dome of the rock mosque on the approximate location where the Jewish temple used to stand.

The Jews pray there as it is the closest easily accessible point to the previous holy of holys. We stopped there and prayed prayed then took the “tunnel tour.”

Tunnel tour us incredible you ate taken under the city in a path along the western wall. The immensity of the wall can’t be described. The portion above the ground reflects maybe a 3rd of its height in Jesus day.

The city was destroyed by Romans under the rule of an evil guy named adrian who destroyed everything. Tried to level the entire place to the ground. The rumble is literally holding up the city so to speak. The city in Jesus day was 10 to 30 ft lower than it is today. They built right over the destruction. The tour shows excavation points where u can better grasp the depth. A highlight was that there is one point where you are at the closest point to the old temple. Some ladies are kissing the wall and praying.

From there my feet walked where Jesus walked. Mary Jo and I went to the church that is located in what was the garden of gethsemane. They built the church at the foot of the mount of olives and it’s altar sits atop a rock where Jesus is said to have prayed and wept on the night of his betrayal by Judas.

The spot overlooks the eastern wall of jerusalem and sits below the place where Jesus ascended into heaven and will one day return.

There is a great sense of reverence. I could envision him crying out and interceding for the people of that great city. The temple sitting right before him.

From there we walked through the lion gate. Very possibly the one Jesus was led through by the soldiers as it goes straight to the via de la Rosa where Pilate’s place and the seat of government for the Romans was located.

We saw the place he was tried and the place where Pilate washed his hands. We saw the place where he was scourged. A church protects the location. At your feet are stones that Jesus may have walked and bled on. Roman games are literally carved into the stones on the floor where they may have cast lots for his clothing.

From there his path is uncertain done say the journey takes Jesus to the cross at a catholic church called the church of the sepulcher, Protestants believe he went a slightly different direction to an area called the garden tomb.

Both directions are awe inspiring and faith building.

We are now officially part of the Acts 29 network. First off it was a ton of worth while work. A journey deeper into the Gospel and theology than I had ever been. Mary Jo and I are so grateful for our coached Jared Davis and Chan Kilgore from Crosspointe Church in Orlando. Your words of wisdom and challenges have helped us tremendously in our walk of faith and I have no doubt they will have a positive impact on our church as well. A special thanks to Pastor Tyler Powell from Mars Hill/A29 for guiding us through the process.

What does this mean for Journey Church. We are now a part of a like minded network of churches connected globally for the purpose of advancing the kingdom of God through planting churches. It’s exciting to be a part of something much bigger than ourselves and I have no doubt God is going to use a29 and other groups like it to have a lasting legacy on the future of the church.

Personally it provides an added measure of accountability and fellowship for Mary Jo, myself, and ultimately the elders of the church. There are conferences and training events to help us grow in doctrine, church strategy and principles, and fellowship with other like minded pastors.

We have already begun to develop some incredible relationships and have already helped a few church plants financially in addition to birthing Reverb Church.

We look forward to the days ahead and whew it will be nice to take a short break from some homework.

Wanted to share a bit of what is on my heart in the hope that it will get you excited and also to encourage you to pray and participate in what God is doing at Journey Church.

We just completed an amazing series on Sin and Salvation called the Prodigal God. This past weekend we launched 32 small groups. This weekend we are starting a new series called The Cross Centered Life to remind us to keep the message of the Gospel 1st and foremost in our lives.

We have begun demolition and will soon begin construction of our new Student Annex for our Jr. and Sr. High kids. Will you pray for them, intercede for them, as God to set them on fire and even help fund this transition so that we can impact lives for eternity!

After The Cross Centered life we will be starting a new series called Go – Gospel Mission – living our everyday lives as missionaries in our own back yard. A practicum on how we can impact people here, around the nation, and around the world. During his series Mary Jo and I will also be going to TelAviv, Israel to minister with Avi Mizrachi to the Jewish People. Would you pray for the peace and protection of Israel and the salvation of the Jewish people. Pray that God might give us favor while we are there.

After Go – It’s Easter – Easter- He is risen – do you believe it? It’s the heart of the gospel message and we will be sharing it that weekend. We want it to be the biggest weekend ever at Journey Church – Would you being to pray that we would have 1500 people in attendance – that is a huge stretch goal for us, but if we don’t believe big we will never achieve it. Stand in faith with me asking God for 100 salvations that weekend. It’s gonna take your help. Pray, invest in the lives of others, then invite, invite, invite.

Post Easter- Real Marriage – a series on marriage and family.

In May we will do a new series called Koinonia – Don’t you long for real relationships that matter? The kind described in the bible? We will examine this topic in detail leading into summer.

What about missions? People we are looking towards Summer for our first international missions trip – Haiti! join us in praying as we set the final details.

What else? Lets be serious about giving it away to keep it – lets develop ministries to the least of these. The lost, hurting, the homeless, the single moms, the unborn, the orphans, the widows, those in distress- lets get out their and tangibly impact our community in 2012 with our finances and our lives.

You all are amazing. We love you – thank you for your support of Journey Church!

Lets live our lives to make a difference in the lives of others.

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 6:2 I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.

Thoughts: It is Journey Church’s greatest desire to see people come to know Christ and then grow to be fully devoted followers of Christ. Would you pray that God would give us favor in everything we do. May our thoughts and vision line up with God’s heart and may we never stray from the path He has set out for us. You have made it to the end. Might His favor be on you as well.

Scripture: Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Thoughts: As we prayed earlier. It is God’s will that we be whole in every area of our lives. If you are in need of physical healing, cry out to God and ask Him to bring wholeness and health to your body. If you are in good health pray for others who might not be.

Scripture: Matthew 5:3 God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

Thoughts: God give us suburban Christians a sincere heart for the poor. We lift up those in the inner city of Jacksonville and in Clay County as well as those around the world. We ask oh God that the churches would rise up and direct their resources towards the less fortunate. We can make a difference.

Thoughts: As believers it is our responsibility to pray for those in power. Pray that God would touch our Presidents heart and give him wisdom to lead during these difficult times.
