As I undertake my own 1 year bible Journey todays scripture came in perfect timing.

Matthew 3:7-4:11 was part of the New Testament reading for today. Chapter 4 is the chapter where Jesus went into the wilderness for 40 days of prayer and fasting which prepared him for his earthly ministry.

I love v. 9 – 10  "Get out of here, Satan" Jesus told him. For the scriptures say, "You must worship the Lord your God and serve Him only!"

A great duality of thought as we enter the new year and enter our own season of prayer and fasting.

Get out of here Satan – fasting done with the right heart and right motives can cause Satan to flee. In fact it gives us the strength and power to tell him to get lost.

How did Jesus defeat him – "For the scriptures say" .  Thus the 1 year bible Journey – we have to get the word in us to know how to combat the enemy and be prepared for every day life.

3rd – Well maybe it wasn't just a duality but a 3 fold cord –
"You must worship the Lord your God and serve him only!" 

Ahh the whole God first concept.  This is the reason and the only reason for the fast – to know God more intimately, to put Him 1st, to expand His leadership in our lives. To make sure everything else in life remains in the proper order.

Readers – Serve Him Only! Put Him First!  If you do, I have no doubt this yer will be incredible for you.
